The addition of the surface active substances

When the surface active substance is lacking in water, the small bubbles always have the trend in breaking through the bubble wall and coalescing with the big bubble, which will destroy the stability of the air floated body. At this point, we need to add foaming agent into the water to ensure the stability of foam in the air flotation operation. The so-called foaming agent, most of which is composed of a non-polar molecule of a surface active agent, the molecular structure symbol of the surfactant generally 0, the head end indicates polar group, soluble in water, stretching into the water ( because water is a strong polar molecule ). The end represents the non-polar base, which is the hydrophobic group and extends into the bubble. Because of the repulsive effect of the same sign, the bubble stability is enhanced and the foam stability is enhanced. therefore, most of the surface active agents are also foaming agent.

When the waste water with low organic pollutant content is treated by air flotation, the dispersion of bubbles and the stability of foam may become the main factors affecting the air flotation effect. In this case, the presence of appropriate surface active substances in water is appropriate and sometimes necessary (such as air-filtration of the drinking water ). However, when the concentration is more than a certain limit, the surface tension of water is reduced due to the increase of surface active substance, the pollution particles in the water emulsion, surface potential increase, at this time the action of the surface active substances with the same charged particles as polluting particles turn to the opposite side, at this time, despite the strong foaming phenomenon, foam formation is stable. But the gas one particle adhesion is not good, the air flotation effect becomes low. Therefore, how to master the best content of active substances in water is one of the important topics to be discussed in the flotation process.

Charged floc particles produced by coagulant dosing

For the industrial wastewater containing fine dispersion of hydrophilic particles (such as pulp, slime and so on ), in addition to the surface electricity neutralization method by using the electrolyte coagulant, the flotation agent can also be added to the water flotation agent, and the hydrophilic surface of the particles can be changed to hydrophobic and adhere to the air bubble. When the polar end of the flotation agent is adsorbed on the hydrophilic particles surface, the nonpolar end faces the water, so that the material with hydrophilic surface is transformed into hydrophobicity, thereby it is able to adhere to the bubble and float to the water surface.

There are many kinds of flotation agents, whether they can play a role in the use of flotation, first of all, deponds on whether its polar side can attach to the surface of hydrophilic pollutant, and the strength of its adhesion to the bubble depends on the length of the non-polar end chain.

For example, the flotation agent used in separating coal from coal washing wastewater is the dephenolization light oil, middle distillate, diesel oil, kerosene or pine oil.
